After learning about OPK’ing and BBT’ing, you are now an expert at tracking your ovulation with the utmost precision.

Congrats! With this knowledge, you are able to schedule the baby dance with your partner according to your fertile window. And tremendously increase your chances of conceiving.

What if you’ve already been using one of these methods for a couple of months without success?

In that case, trying to combine the two methods could be the solution for you. Here’s what the combination of OPK’ing and BBT’ing will help you with:

  • OPK’ing

    • Gives you ‘real-time’ information about your ovulation
    • Shows you lines on the test to see if your ovulation is approaching
    • Helps to identify your fertile window and ovulation
  • BBT’ing

    • Gives you an overview of your whole cycle
    • Shows you a thermal shift to see if your ovulation has occurred
    • Helps to predict your fertile window and identify your ovulation

Now that you have the tools to detect your ovulation, it’s important to know how to plan the baby dance in order to have the highest chance of conceiving.

Your fertile window is the five days leading up to and including your ovulation. During this time, your chances of conceiving are highest.

  • Let’s look at an example. This cycle has a length of 30 days and it will look like this:

    • Cycle Day 1 — February 18th, 2019
      Your period starts.
    • Fertile window — March 2nd – 6th, 2019
Leading up to the ovulation, your cervical fluid changes. It becomes the perfect environment for sperm to survive. You will also start to see two lines on your ovulation test.
    • Ovulation — March 6th, 2019
Your egg releases. You are now fertile for 24 hours. Tomorrow, you’ll notice the thermal shift in your waking temperature.

The egg released during ovulation remains alive for 24 hours. Luckily, your wonderfully-made body is prepared and fertile cervical fluid makes sure that sperm can survive up to six days. This is why your fertile window is almost a whole week; not just one day.

It’s important to schedule the baby dance with your partner during this time. Once every 24 to 48 hours is advisable.
